Start a quick quizRoad markings
Markings are white or yellow. Solid lines and boxes are rules you must obey; broken lines guide you.
The tram junction diagram (handbook p.82)
It shows six things at once. The red tram box is the rule that matters: enter only when your exit is clear.
- Raised table intersection. The whole junction is built as a flat-topped speed hump, so traffic slows down. Not defined in the handbook.
- Tram box junction. The red surface over the tracks. Do not enter it unless your exit is clear.
- Tram line marking. The parallel black lines show where the tram tracks run.
- Pedestrian crossing. White stripes. Give way to people crossing.
- Speed hump. Yellow triangles pointing the way you travel mark the slope up.
- Ramp. White lines at the start of the raised section.

Centre lines: can you overtake? Pick a line, then press Overtake. Look at the line nearest your side.
Choose a line, then press Overtake.
Traffic lights
Decide where you are going first, then obey only the light for that direction.
The rules
- Straight ahead: obey the main (round) light. An arrow pointing left or right does not apply to you.
- Turning left or right: obey the arrow that points your way. If it is red you must stop. If it is green you may go when it is safe and there is space on the other side. Give way to pedestrians crossing the road you turn into.
- Red: stop, do not enter the intersection.
- Green blinks, then amber, then red: a blinking green means amber is about to follow. You are not yet obliged to stop, so judge your speed and distance. Entering on amber or red is a serious offence.
- Green: check that cross traffic has stopped before you go. Proceed only if it is safe.
- Flashing yellow (some pedestrian crossings): proceed with caution and watch for pedestrians.

Fines and points
At 24 black points your licence is suspended. Red light: 12 points. Phone: 4 points.
Tap an offence to add it to a sample record and watch the points climb.
Where these numbers come from
Figures follow the RTA Light Motor Vehicle Handbook, Part 8 fines table. The one exception is emergency vehicles, where the handbook's text (AED 3,000, 6 points, 30 days) and its table (AED 1,000, 6 points) disagree. The 24 point suspension limit is not stated in the handbook. Sources: Gulf News, UAE Inform, Emirates Breaking, Road Ready UAE.

Start a quick quizAfter a collision
Report colours: Pink is the driver at fault, Green is not at fault, White means nobody is accused.
Issued to the driver at fault.
Issued to the driver not at fault.
Issued when neither party is accused, or the other party is unknown.
What to do after a collision
- Stay safe. Hazard lights on, get out away from live lanes, wear a high-visibility jacket if you have one. Do not move injured people.
- Dial 999 for the Police, and an ambulance if anyone is hurt. Give the details as LINE: Location, Incident, Number injured, Extent of injuries.
- Minor accident, no injuries: the Police may tell you to report it at a station or in the Dubai Police app.
- Have ready: driving licence, car registration card, Emirates ID or passport.
- Photos: take pictures of the damage to your car. Do not photograph the other occupants or bystanders without permission, and never post them on social media.
- If the other driver leaves, note their plate number and give it to the Police.
- Stay calm and do not argue. No repairs until you have the Police Report.
Dubai Police app photo limit: 4. Your practice test marks 4 as correct. The handbook gives no number and some press guides say 5.
